The IGY6; Survival Training

On November 13, 2021, The IGY6; Foundation brought the spirit of outdoor adventure and personal growth to life through a day of survival training.

Survival training is about much more than learning how to make it through challenging situations. It's about developing confidence, thinking through problems, adapting to the unexpected, and learning to work together when things don't go according to plan.

For The IGY6; Foundation, this experience represented an important part of our mission: helping veterans and first responders discover the positive impacts of outdoor activities while building connections and finding renewed purpose.

Learning Beyond the Comfort Zone

The outdoors has a unique way of challenging us. It takes us away from familiar surroundings and encourages us to think differently, rely on our abilities, and work alongside the people around us.

Survival training offers valuable lessons in preparation, resourcefulness, patience, and perseverance. It reminds us that challenges don't always have easy answers, but with the right mindset and a willingness to learn, we can find ways forward.

These lessons extend far beyond the training environment. The ability to adapt, remain focused, and work through difficulties can make a difference in everyday life, too.

Stronger Together

One of the most important parts of any outdoor training experience is the opportunity to build relationships.

Working together toward a common goal creates trust, encourages communication, and reinforces the importance of teamwork. Every person brings different strengths and experiences to the table, and learning from one another makes the journey more meaningful.

For veterans and first responders, opportunities to connect with others who understand the value of teamwork and shared challenges can be especially meaningful. These experiences create space for camaraderie, new friendships, and a sense of belonging.

At The IGY6; Foundation, we believe no one should have to navigate life's challenges alone. Sometimes, the strongest connections begin when people step outside their comfort zones and take on something new together.

The Power of Outdoor Experiences

Our survival training was another opportunity to embrace the outdoors, learn new skills, and reinforce the values that guide our foundation.

Outdoor activities can encourage personal growth, promote positive connections, and provide a welcome change from the pressures of everyday life. They also offer opportunities to rediscover interests, build confidence, and experience the satisfaction that comes from learning something new.

We believe these experiences can help veterans and first responders reconnect with themselves, strengthen their relationships, and explore new ways to find meaning and purpose.

More Than Training — It's About Growth

Every adventure offers a lesson. Sometimes it's a practical skill. Other times, it's the realization that we are capable of more than we thought, especially when we have the support of others.

Survival training reinforces the importance of preparation, adaptability, teamwork, and perseverance. These are qualities that serve us in the outdoors and throughout the many challenges life may bring.

At The IGY6; Foundation, our goal is to create opportunities for veterans and first responders to experience these moments of growth while building lasting connections with their community.

Continuing the Mission

Looking back this survival training experience stands as another chapter in our ongoing journey to connect people through outdoor activities and shared adventures.

We remain committed to helping veterans and first responders explore new opportunities, develop meaningful relationships, and discover a renewed sense of purpose.

Because the mission is about more than the activity itself. It's about the people beside us, the lessons we carry forward, and the reminder that we are stronger when we support one another.

At The IGY6; Foundation, every adventure is an opportunity to learn, grow, connect, and keep moving forward.

Keep learning. Keep growing. Keep showing up for one another.
